THE YAKITY YAK!
INCIRLIK ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

After a long departure the Incirlik Alumni Association website is back up, and running strong! I appreciate the patience of all of our alumni members in bearing with me this past year. It has been a tough one, and I am ready to move forward stronger than ever! After losing our free static IP address and the space we once utilized to call "Home of the Hodjas" (virtually speaking), I decided to contract with a webhosting company and purchase webhosting space for the alumni site.

Rebuilding of this site has been a difficult task for me, and an expensive one as well. I would still prefer to not charge association dues, as many other alumni associations have had to start doing, but there are expenses associated with maintaining the site. Therefore, I have opted to start asking for those who are able to start making donations for the maintainance of our site. I plan to add a link for donations that will possibly be done via Paypal. Donations can also be sent to me via snailmail in the form of check or money orders. I plan to also add a contributors page acknowledging and thanking those who make this site possible. Check back with us soon to see the changes. The donations will go towards paying the expenses of the domain name, the webhosting space, software, printer supplies, paper, long distance charges, etc. There is a lot more that goes into maintaining this association than one would think.

Our alumni association is not a one man show. This site belongs to anyone who is or was a student, faculty member, or a parent of a student at Incirlik Schools. Periodically, we also like to extend the invitation to a guest of an alumni to become a member of our extended family as an "Honorary Hodja". This invitation is only extended to a guest who has made a lasting impression by either acts of kindness, generosity, providing valuable assistance, or in Phil Hamilton's case, simply by providing great entertainment! Since the alumni association belongs to all of us, I welcome any suggestions that you would like to see to our site. Any assistance that you can provide with the site is also welcome. Provided we have the free space on our site, I will be happy to make additions that you would like to see. Just please keep in mind that we no longer have unlimited space to work with, and any space exceeding that what I have contracted will come at an additional cost to the association.

A couple of new features that I am currently working on include email addresses for our alumni and a real-time message board/blog. These are merely in the "wish-list" stages, so everyone keep your fingers crossed. Expecially on the real-time blog! I know quite a few of you that would enjoy that feature!

I want to personally apologize to Doug Staas regarding his float trip that he had planned for this past June. Doug put in a lot of effort to get that event organize, but had to cancel due to the fact that I could not get the site functional in time to give him the adequate support he needed from the alumni association to get that trip "a float". I know there were many of you interested in that event, and I believe Doug plans to re-schedule. I will keep you posted.

Kim has also planned a great trip for 2008 that I believe many of you may be interested in as well. Nothing would be greater than a relaxing float trip in the Ozarks, followed by a wonderful cruise to Italy next year! Contact Kim for more information about the cruise, or Doug for more information about the float trip.

We will start working on the next Incirlik Alumni Association Reunion again very soon as well. I think everyone agreed that one alumni association reunion every five (5) years is sufficient for us to keep up on the latest goings on in one anothers lives. Besides, it takes about that long to recooperate after attending one of our reunions! If you have been to one, I think you will agree! Kim and I decided to have the next reunion in 2010, and have them every five years thereafter. That makes it easier for us to remember as we enter our "Getting Golden" years! Getting Better as I like to refer to them! For those of you who think that five years is too spread apart, we invite alumni members to plan "gatherings" to fill the void for a "Hodja-fix". It takes more than a year of planning, preparation and work to pull off one of the alumni association reunions. Therefore, it really isn't feasible to hold our alumni association reunions anymore frequent than every five years. By request, we do plan to hold the next alumni association reunion somewhere on the East Coast as we have not yet covered that area, and we have a large percentage of alumni who reside in that region. We will keep you posted on our progress, and feel free to send us your suggestions.

As always, please check your personal information to see if corrections are needed. If so, please email that information to us.
